In winter, the Untersberg is considered a nearby skiing area for the people of Salzburg. The cable car takes you comfortably to the top. There you can strap on your skis or snowboard and reach the 7.5 km long downhill run in a good 15 minutes on foot. It ends in Fürstenbrunn and is of course only possible in good snow conditions. The bus takes you back to the valley station.
A trip to the summit in summer is at least as exciting. The view alone is worth the extra time. The view extends all the way to the city of Salzburg, which lies below, and into the Berchtesgadener Land region. If the view is good, you can also see the Salzkammergut and Lake Chiemsee. Not to mention the surrounding mountains with the snow-covered Dachstein and the impressive peaks of the Hohe Tauern. You can either enjoy the panorama from a deck chair or let the wind blow around your nose on a hike.
