The Lungau Landscape Museum is located in Mauterndorf Castle and brings visitors closer to the life and distinctive culture of the region.

Gain insights into the themes of landscape, culture, religion and customs, which are presented in 17 rooms.

Embark on the Lungau adventure with the special features of fauna and flora and the former ways of life and work.

Be impressed by the unique mineral show, which emphasises the importance of mining in Lungau and proves in a rich variety and beauty that arsenic, lead, iron, gold and silver were mined.

It is not only the moving model railway of the Taurachbahn that delights young and old, but also the history of development from the mule track to the Tauern motorway.

The Trachtenstube (traditional costume room) displays a wide variety of garments and artistic handicrafts from yesteryear. The second floor also has a lot to offer: Here, the focus is on forests, hunting and the local animal world. A large slide show, the bird world, the south tower with about 400 native butterflies and the children's cave with animal voices are guaranteed to keep you entertained. Other interesting topics in the museum are various oil paintings, the rural working world, legends and historical events as well as tradition and customs. The biggest attraction here is probably the Samson, the pillory poles, the colourful Almabtrieb and the traditional Easter fires.
